Shannon’s Wine Suggestions for Thanksgiving Dinner:
Riondo Prosecco from Italy has a crisp apple nose with mineral and apple flavors. The light effervescence makes this sparkling wine exciting. Serve chilled as an aperitif, with white sauce dishes or shellfish.
White Wines (under $15)
Charles and Charles Riesling from Washington State is a semi dry Riesling and it has a light straw color with crisp apple flavors. Serve chilled with poultry, ham, shelled seafood and white sauced pasta dishes.
Amantiglio Chardonnay from Italy is a nice lighter style wine with tropical fruit flavors, but still balanced with a little acidity to make this wine a great food wine. Serve chilled with appetizers, ham, poultry and seafood.
Thousand Islands Gewurztraimer from New York State has tropical fruit aromas with a mango, apricot and peach flavors. Serve this wine chilled with spicy dishes, poultry, ham and seafood.
Rose wines (under $15)
Casa Larga Dry Rose from New York State is a crisp wine with nice subtle hints of strawberry and a creamy mouth feel. Serve chilled with ham, poultry or seafood dishes.
Decibel Rose from Hawkes Bay New Zealand is an off dry rose with muted flavors of strawberry. Nice acidity on the finish keeps it crisp and it pairs well with poultry, ham, seafood, light pasta dishes and spicy foods. Serve chilled
Red Wines (under $12)
Red Carriage from Adirondack Winery in New York State is a light semi fruity wine with raspberry and cranberry flavors. Serve slightly chilled with spicy dishes, ham, poultry or seafood.
Columbia Winery Red blend from Washington State has a rich red color. There is a luscious raspberry jam nose with raspberry flavors. There is a hint of tobacco and a little spice on the finish. Serve at room temperature with beef, poultry, red sauce pasta dishes and sausage stuffing.
Armador Carmenere from Chile has a deep red color with terrific aromas of red berries. Red raspberry and leather flavors make this wine a gem. This wine finishes with black raspberry and a little tobacco on the finish. Serve this wine at room temperature with beef, red sauce dishes and poultry.
Lakeland Chocolate Covered Cherry dessert wine from New York State has juicy ripe cherries and dark smooth chocolate flavors. Serve slightly chilled with cheesecake or your favorite dessert.
